Literacise at Boston Public Library! http://www.bpl.org/kids/literacise.htm
Irene Smalls is teaming up with the Boston Public Library, State Street Corporation, architects from the Community Design Resource Center of Boston, Brandon Bird Design, and Lasell College to create the Literacise exhibit based on the children's book, Jonathan and His Mommy.
With tunnels to explore and secrets to find, children visiting the Literacise exhibit will zig-zag, bunny-hop, and giant-step their way through a kid-sized interactive book. Current research in the field of cognitive development shows that children often learn better when their bodies are in motion. With childhood obesity rates on the rise in Boston, Literacise will get families up and moving and will teach parents about the important connection between physical activity and learning.
Literacise will be located adjacent to the Rey Children’s Room on the first floor of the Central Library in Copley Square at 700 Boylston Street.

“Feed the Body and the Mind: November is Family Literacy Month”
For children between four and six years old, save the afternoon of Sunday, November 8, for a special Reading Readiness program here at Richards Memorial Library in North Attleboro.
Sharing time together reading has long been known to foster a love of reading in children. But with all that today’s busy families have to do, finding that time is often a problem. This multi-faceted program will provide tools and suggestions to help parents find ways to create special family times while having fun reading, shopping, cooking and eating together.
There will be three parts to this program.
1. Anne Sullivan, first grade teacher and early childhood educator, will present a parent/child interactive reading readiness program filled with creative and entertaining activities for families to enjoy together.
2. Nutritionist Kristina Spellman will present ideas on planning healthy meals, shopping and reading labels, cooking and eating together as a family.
3. A Storyteller will entertain and encourage families to share time together telling their own stories because developing narrative skills is essential to reading comprehension.

Kids, parents and staff will be asked to dress like their favorite book character and bring in their favorite book. We'll all share our books and why we like our character and the book. We'll ask for a couple of parents and kids read their stories. One of the staff will read their favorite story. Time permitting, we may do some quick book trivia game. We'll have participation certificates and a free book as a give- away.
