The Sound of Music on Broadway: Songs and Duets from Two Generations
Waltham Public Library

Singers Carolyn Kingston and Diana Cole present “The Sound of Music on Broadway: Songs and Duets from Two Generations” at the Waltham Public Library, 735 Main Street, on Sunday, October 25th at 3:00 PM. Accompanied by Thomas Stumpf on piano, Kingston, a soprano, and her sister Cole, a mezzo-soprano, will perform a program of selections from Broadway hits of the 1940’s through the 1990’s. Enjoy pieces from Rogers and Hammerstein’s “State Fair” to Kander and Ebb’s “Chicago,” with songs from Berlin, Bernstein and Sondheim in between.

Kingston and Cole are two solo performers who join their talents in an exceptional blend of voices and musicianship. Their appearances include the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and the Gardner Museum, the Longfellow Historical Site, and Harvard University. With folk singer and song leader Jan Maier, Kingston and Cole founded the Vocal Arts Collaborative Inc., which offers special singing events, workshops, and community sings to singers of all ages and abilities.

Stumpf, Director of Music at the Follen Church in East Lexington, co-founder of Prism Opera, and teacher at Tufts and UMass Lowell, has also taught at the New England Conservatory and Boston University and is a regular guest at the Musikschule in Mannheim, Germany.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Waltham Public Library, the program is free, but seating is limited. Please reserve a place online by clicking on “Events Calendar” at www.waltham.lib.ma.us, or calling 781-314-3425, ext. 2.
