Geology of Mount Toby

Enjoy a guided tour of the area surrounding Mt. Toby and witness the amazing geologic phenomena of our local region.  We will circle Mt. Toby and along the way see the evidence of the plate tectonic collisions that made the supercontinent of Pangea. We will walk across the Eastern Border Fault – the 200 mile long fault that formed 200 million years ago, creating a rift valley as Pangea split during the Mesozoic Era, the Age of Dinosaurs. Mt Toby’s location was very close to the faulted mountains of the rift, and many landslides deposited coarse, angular rocks into what is now Mt Toby. The Adventure Bus will pick you up at the library and will drive you to various short hiking locations ranging from quick roadside views to a 20 minute walk along a woodland trail. Wear sturdy shoes and bring hiking poles if you use them. Skill Level: All     Fitness Level: All    Age Level: All Registration Required.
