From harrowing accounts of shipwrecks to Melville’s own experiences at sea, the novel draws from a remarkable blend of history, bravery and personal reflection. Discover how historical events, literary sources and Melville’s whaling voyages combined fact and fiction to produce a story that continues to captivate readers around the world. Maeve Hartney, Chief Program Officer of Massachusetts Road Scholar Programs, will lead a viewing of the online lecture at Abbot Public Library, followed by a discussion session. Registration is required and limited to 35.
