The Music Committee is thrilled to open its 2025-26 Season with the musicians of Poiema Trio: pianist Anran Qian, violinist Ann Yu, and cellist Nathan Francisco. The trio, dedicated to sharing the joy of chamber music with its audiences, was formed in the summer of 2023 when its members bonded over a shared affinity for folk traditions and improvisation. In their time together, they have performed and taught workshops across the eastern half of the US. They are the recipients of the 2024 Gold Medal Prize from the Ninth International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition. Their name, “Poiema” [poy'-ay-mah], means poetry at the intersection of beauty and brokenness, a poignant reminder of an artist’s true calling. They will perform the works of French composers Ravel, Debussy, Boulanger, and Fauré. More information is available at their website: www.poiematrio.com. Anran, who played an enthusiastically-received solo piano recital in the Library’s Community Room in 2022, has performed across Asia, Europe, and North America. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Juilliard School and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Boston University while serving on the piano faculty at Brookline Music School. Ann received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she was the winner of the 26 th Annual Darius Milhaud Competition and Concerto Competition. Nathan, who is passionate about historic performance and has extensively studied baroque cello and viola da gamba as well as organ and other historical keyboards, is currently studying at the Juilliard School of Music.
