Description :

On the theme of:  FILMS FOR A MONDAY NIGHT Scrap -- A Documentary Film by Stacey Tannenbaum 2022,   78 minutes In this elegiac documentary, Canadian filmmaker Stacey Tenenbaum ponders the fate of discarded objects and finds a certain beauty and resonance along the way. In Georgia, she shows a man who keeps watch over four thousand abandoned cars—tending a business his family has run since the 1930s. In India, a young photographer documents the lives of subsistence workers who salvage the reusable parts of discarded computers. In Spain, a shipyard crew dismantles a vessel so that its steel can be reworked into new building material. A retired man collects obsolete trolley cars (including some from the MBTA) that still have a chance to return to service as refurbished “vintage” trams. And in South Dakota, a sculptor roams from junkyard to scrap pile searching for parts or just debris that he converts into art. In a certain way, the film does the same without denying the costs of the industrial age and its toxic legacies. BE ADVISED--This film is rated PG, with intermittent scenes of intense poverty, urban squalor and ecological devastation along with moments of unexpected transcendence. westonlibrary.assabetinteractive.com/calendar/weston-film-club-special-monday-evening-screening-scrap/
