Nine-year-old Cáit is a withdrawn child from a poor, dysfunctional family who is sent to live for the summer with a distant cousin. The cousin, a middle-aged woman named Eibhlín welcomes Cáit to her farm while her husband Sean keeps his distance and buries himself in his work. Slowly, a bond forms with Cáit finding herself loved as she embraces life on the farm––if only for the season. Nuanced and tender, this sublime film by Colm Bairéad catches a wistful place and time without glossing over the hardness of young Cáit’s world.
